Global Airlines (G6), the UK-based startup carrier with ambitious plans, has at last revealed the interior of its first Airbus A380. As the airline prepares to operate its inaugural flight in May 2025, the unveiling of its cabin marks a milestone for the airline’s much-touted entry into long-haul operations.
The ex-China Southern Airlines (CZ) double-decker plane has been repainted and reconfigured with subdued sophistication to suit Global’s vibrant brand identity
The aircraft, registered 9H-GLBL, was flown to Portugal for the redesign of its livery and basic cabin refresh. Over the past few days, Global Airlines CEO and founder James Asquith shared exclusive photographs and video footage, providing the public with a first glimpse inside the superjumbo that will commence the airline’s journey.

Interior Refresh with a Touch of Originality
While Global Airlines has retained the basic structure and seat configuration it inherited from China Southern, new upholstery, carpets, and branding touches have been introduced to give the cabin a breath of life. The airline’s logo and signature colors now dominate throughout, providing a sense of unity and identity.
Among the most intriguing additions is the mysterious “Sky Pub,” a unique amenity hinted at by Asquith. Though full details remain embargoed, the concept promises to bring a fresh twist to hospitality in the air. It’s clear that Global Airlines is seeking to differentiate not just on price or frequency, but on an experience that reignites the romance of flight.
Asquith admitted the limitations of the retrofit, that supply chain delays had held back the delivery of materials for a more fundamental redesign. Still, he stated the current layout was only the beginning:
“I’m proud of what we have done in a short space of time… Remember the first product on Virgin in the early days—it only got better and better with time.”

Countdown to Launch: Two Routes to New York
The airline will launch with two transatlantic routes to New York JFK, operating from:
- Glasgow (GLA) on May 15
- Manchester (MAN) on May 21
Despite having just one plane in its fleet, Global Airlines is hoping to spark imaginations with its A380 revival, marketing an aviation innovation that few other airlines currently provide. The choice of UK regional gateways also suggests a deliberate attempt to reach underserved long-haul markets.
Tickets on both inaugural routes are already available for sale, and demand is shaping up well. But time is of the essence with behind-the-scenes last-minute tweaks to the aircraft’s interior being made.

Hi Fly to Operate First Flights
Although the airline continues certification, the A380 will not yet fly under Global’s own Air Operator Certificate (AOC) for the time being. Instead, the flights will be performed by Hi Fly (5K), a Portuguese ACMI (Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance, and Insurance) leasing expert, on an ad hoc basis.
Hi Fly has extensive experience operating the A380 and offers the expertise and regulatory compliance that Global requires to become airborne. This agreement allows Global to initiate operations while it completes the more rigorous steps toward independence.

From World Traveler to Airline Founder
Global Airlines is the brainchild of James Asquith, a Guinness World Record-holding traveler who explored all 196 nations before he was 25. His own experiences across thousands of flights have inspired the airline’s philosophy: bringing back the awe and thrill that used to characterize air travel.
Founded in 2021, Global Airlines emerged with a vision to offer a fresh take on premium long-haul flying. It’s a high-stakes endeavor, with the A380—an aircraft many carriers have retired—at the center of this new strategy.
For Asquith, this launch is more than a business venture – it’s a mission:
“We’re not just starting an airline. We’re trying to bring back the magic of flying.”
Will the A380 Make a Comeback?
The decision to start with an Airbus A380, an aircraft some see as a dinosaur from another age, is a bold and nostalgic one. While some large operators like Emirates continue to operate the A380 in quantity, most airlines have switched to more fuel-efficient twin-engine jets. Global Airlines, however, sees the superjumbo as not so much obsolete as an opportunity for differentiation.
The spacious cabin, multiple decks, and novelty appeal could help the startup carve out a niche in the long-haul leisure travel segment – especially among passengers who prefer comfort and experience over mere transportation.

Bottom Line: Global Airlines A380
The launch of Global Airlines’ A380 service is set to be one of the biggest aviation stories of the year. With just weeks to go, the team is racing against time to get everything ready. Assuming that the initial flights go smoothly and the market response is favorable, expansion – perhaps with additional A380s or new routes can follow.
In the meantime, May 15 and May 21 are the dates everyone will be watching when Global Airlines takes to the skies for the very first time, marking a new era of excitement and hope for the future of long-distance travel.
As a whole, the Global Airlines Airbus A380 project is a fascinating blend of nostalgia, startup spirit, and stratospheric ambition. While the airline’s path to full certification and scalability is anything but assured, its first steps already have the industry imagining.
Should Global be able to deliver on its promise of comfort, style, and a rekindled sense of wonder, it might just breathe new life into one of aviation’s most iconic aircraft.
