On January 10, 2025, two American Airlines Boeing 737s collided on the ground at New York’s LaGuardia Airport (LGA). The incident occurred during a pushback operation when one aircraft’s left wing struck the right wing of another aircraft which was parked nearby.
The first Boeing 737-800, with registration N962NN, was preparing to depart as flight AA793 from LaGuardia to Chicago (ORD). However, during the pushback, its left wing collided with the right wing of another American Airlines 737-800, with registration N912AN, which was parked at a gate.
Passengers aboard N962NN had not yet boarded when the incident occurred, while the second aircraft, N912AN, had safely arrived from Orlando International Airport (MCO) as flight AA3306 and had already disembarked its passengers.

Details of the Incident
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reported the collision in its Aviation Safety Information Analysis and Sharing (ASIAS) data, stating:
“AIRCRAFT UNDER TOW, LEFT WING STRUCK RIGHT WING OF N912AN WHICH WAS PARKED AT THE GATE, NEW YORK, NY.”
The incident was attributed to a miscalculation during the pushback procedure. While N962NN sustained wing damage and was subsequently grounded, the parked N912AN reported minor damage and returned to service the next day.

Aircraft Details and Flight Disruptions
- N962NN: A 10.2-year-old Boeing 737-800 powered by CFM56-7B engines. This aircraft was scheduled to depart as flight AA793 bound for Chicago but was grounded after the collision.
- N912AN: A 25.6-year-old Boeing 737-800. It arrived earlier from Orlando as flight AA3306 and was parked at Terminal B, Concourse A gate when the incident occurred.
Following the collision, the Chicago-bound flight was canceled, and the affected passengers were rebooked on alternate flights. Ground services were deployed to inspect and repair both aircraft.
According to eyewitnesses, airport staff responded promptly to the collision, ensuring safety and initiating damage assessments. No injuries were reported in the incident.
The FAA confirmed that it will conduct a detailed investigation into the collision to determine its cause and prevent similar incidents in the future.
