On January 11, 2025, Celinda Levno, a veteran American Airlines flight attendant was tragically killed in a random stabbing attack in Downtown Denver. The senseless attack occurred while Levno was on a layover near the 16th Street Mall, close to California Street, around 5:17 PM.

Levno, who had dedicated over three decades to her career as a flight attendant, was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. She was one of three lone pedestrians targeted in a series of stabbings carried out over the weekend.

The Denver Police Department (DPD) reported that the first victim was attacked just five minutes before Levno, and a third victim was stabbed approximately 40 minutes later. While the two other victims survived, Levno succumbed to severe injuries to her throat.

In a separate incident on Sunday night, a fourth stabbing occurred on Market Street, resulting in the death of another adult male. Late Sunday, authorities announced that a suspect had been taken into custody and formally arrested in connection with all four stabbings. The identity of the suspect is expected to be released shortly.

Tributes Pour In for Beloved Flight Attendant

American Airlines and the Association of Professional Flight Attendants (APFA) have expressed deep sorrow over Levno’s untimely death. The APFA released a heartfelt statement:

“With great sadness, we inform you of the passing of Phoenix-based Flight Attendant Celinda Levno while on a layover in Denver. Celinda began her career with America West in 1989. Celinda’s love for her horses, friends, and family will always be remembered. We stand in support of Celinda’s family, friends, and our colleagues in Phoenix Inflight as they process this senseless tragedy.”

American Airlines echoed similar sentiments in a statement, saying:

“We are heartbroken and mourning the tragic loss of our colleague who was the victim of a senseless crime last night. Our thoughts and support are with her family, loved ones, and colleagues, and we are doing all we can to assist law enforcement in its investigation.”

Heightened Safety Measures Following the Tragedy

In the wake of the incident, American Airlines has temporarily relocated flight attendants from their downtown Denver layover hotel. Denver Police Chief Ron Thomas has urged residents and visitors to remain vigilant and avoid walking alone.

Celinda Levno, who started her career with America West Airlines in 1989 before the airline merged with American Airlines, was a well-loved member of the Phoenix Inflight crew. Her tragic death has left her family, colleagues, and friends devastated, with many recalling her dedication, warmth, and passion for life.

The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities are working to determine the motive behind the attacks. This tragic incident highlights the importance of safety in urban areas and the vulnerability of individuals in unpredictable situations.
